Visitors to our websites
When someone visits www.datastreams.io we use our own propriety first party solution, the “Datastreams Platform”, enabled by a Single Line of Code (“SLoC”). With this we collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns by importing the data collected into a visualisation solution such as Microsoft Power BI. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information is only processed in a way that does not identify anyone. We do not make, and do not allow 3rd parties to make, any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website. If we do want to collect personally identifiable information through our website, we will be up front about this. We will make it clear when we collect personal information and will explain what we intend to do with it.
Further information about the SLoC and its use by the Datastreams Platform is shown below:

How we connect to a website
When using the Datastreams Platform to measure a Website or Web based application, all functionalities are enabled through a single line of code (SLoC). This SLoC is a snippet of JavaScript and needs to be placed in the DOM of a website, or made available via any Tag Management Solution. The SLoC is generic and is the same for any website or webpage to measure.

   (function(){
   var a=document.getElementsByT   agName(‘script’)[0],
   b=document.createElement(‘script’);
   b.async=!0;b.src=’//streaming.datastreams.io/dimml.js’;
   a.parentNode.insertBefore(b,a);
   })();

Technical remarks
The SLoC is loaded asynchronously to ensure minimal impact on the client experience. The SLoC distribution is handled through a CDN, thus ensuring fast loading.

Use of cookies by Datastreams.io
You can read more about how we use cookies on our Cookies page.

WordPress
We use a third-party service, WordPress.org, to publish our website. These sites are hosted at TransIP. We use a standard WordPress service to collect anonymous information about users’ activity on the site, for example the number of users viewing pages on the site, to monitor and report on the effectiveness of the site and help us improve it. WordPress requires visitors that want to post a comment to enter a name and email address. For more information about how WordPress processes data, please see Automattic’s privacy notice.

Search engine
Our website search and decision notice search is powered by the WordPress Theme we use to create our website. Search queries and results are logged anonymously to help us improve our website and search functionality. No user-specific personal data is collected by either Datastreams.io or any third party.

E-newsletters & email marketing
We use a third-party provider, MailChimp, to deliver our monthly e-newsletters and email marketing campaigns. We also use this to send out updates about our products, such as the Data Stream Manager, to registered users of these products. We will store your email address and other relevant personal data only as long as is needed for sending you these emails.

We gather statistics around email opening and clicks using industry standard technologies including single pixel gifs to help us monitor and improve our e-newsletters and email marketing. We send e-newsletters and email marketing campaigns to those people who have opted in to receive these.  We offer the ability on each of these to opt out, using the links provided.  You can also email us at contactus@datastreams.io and ask to be removed from such communications.  For more information, please see MailChimps’ privacy policy.

We embed our ‘Newspaper’ called “Your Datastreams Digest” into our website using an iFrame from a 3rd party provider, Paper.li. Paper.li is a service operated by Finity SA (previously named Smallrivers SA).  For more information, please see Paperli’s privacy policy.

People who contact us via social media
We use a third-party provider, Hootsuite to manage our social media interactions. If you send us a private or direct message via social media the message will be stored by Hootsuite for 3 months. It will not be shared with any other organisations.  For further information, please refer to the Hootsuite privacy policy.

People who email us
Any email sent to us, including any attachments, may be monitored and used by us for reasons of security and for monitoring compliance with our office policy. Email monitoring or blocking software may also be used. Please be aware that you have a responsibility to ensure that any email you send to us is within the bounds of the law. Emails will be stored for as long as  required in order to comply with mandatory or auditing requirements.

Job applicants, current and former Datastreams.io employees
When individuals apply to work at Datastreams.io, we will only use the information they supply to us to process their application and to monitor recruitment statistics. Where we want to disclose information to a third party, for example where we want to take up a reference or obtain a ‘disclosure’ from the Criminal Records Bureau we will not do so without informing them beforehand unless the disclosure is required by law.

Personal information about unsuccessful candidates will be held for 12 months after the recruitment exercise has been completed, it will then be destroyed or deleted. We retain de-personalised statistical information about applicants to help inform our recruitment activities, but no individuals are identifiable from that data.

Once a person has taken up employment with Datastreams.io, we will compile a file relating to their employment. The information contained in this will be kept secure and will only be used for purposes directly relevant to that person’s employment. Once their employment with Datastreams.io has ended, we will retain the file in accordance with the requirements of our retention schedule and then delete it.

We would also welcome any suggestions for improving our procedures.

This privacy policy was drafted with brevity and clarity in mind. It does not provide exhaustive detail of all aspects of Datastreams.io collection and use of personal information. However, we are happy to provide  additional information or explanation needed. Any requests for this should be sent to the address below.
